This prestigious 2 Michelin starred restaurant is set in a prominent location around the corner from Tower Bridge, overlooking both Tooley Street and Queen Elizabeth Street on the Bermondsey/Southwark side of the Thames.

Our proposal consists of a first-floor extension with a sensible setback, access via a lift and a private stair core. The concept of the existing timber cladding on the side facade is carried up with elegant rhythm to form the balustrades for the outdoor balcony on both sides.

Maximising the splendid view of the surrounding area by incorporating full height glazing on the extension level together with glass balustrades along the front to enhance the transparency of the massing and to visually minimise the impact to the adjacent listed building as well as complimenting the setting of the street view.

The clean form on this key location fits into its urban grain, presenting a strong and enchanting building style that shows respect to the setting of the local conservation area. The massing of the form has also been carefully considered to ensure the visual balance and break-up of the bulk with the intention of reducing the perceived scale of the building. This is achieved by a thin overhanging roof profile together with a elegant timber façade.

The oversailing profile cladding is arranged to form curvature, echoing the organic nature of the material. The proposed extension will enhance the existing dining experience whilst the unique architectural aesthetic provides a positive contribution to its immediate urban context.
