Porthcawl
Residential Property
The close connection with the sea and the traditional architecture of Porthcawl is reflected in the design and material selections of Porthcawl Apartments.
The architecture is driven by the requirement to provide key markers at the two main focal points fronting the Esplanade and Eastern Promenade and to strengthen the eastern end of the sea front, providing a visual bookend to the Esplanade.
The site of the former Pier Hotel will feature a stone raised ground floor level with direct access from the Esplanade. This will create a new frontage and pedestrian route through to The Square to the rear. The upper floors will be finished in render to reflect the character of the neighbouring buildings. In our proposal, the apartments will also benefit from the articulation of seafront facing bays and recessed balconies. The site will utilise the existing topography and change in site levels to provide undercroft car parking, residential cycle parking and residential refuse stores.
In keeping with its picturesque surroundings, the top section of building is glazed to provide optimum light and maximise views of the seafront as the development steps down towards the western end of the Esplanade. This will be the focal point of this building, alluding to lighthouses situated along the seafront, guiding residents home.
